Hampshire's Market Town

West Street

Street guide, Fareham

West Street runs from the western end of the High Street towards Fareham railway station and the civic quarter. This is where the town centre transitions from retail to civic and residential use. The Fareham Borough Council offices sit just off West Street, and the street provides the main pedestrian route between the station and the shops. The Civic Quarter redevelopment has changed the western end of the street in recent years. There are several restaurants and cafes along the street, along with professional offices and service businesses. The Red Lion Hotel, a former coaching inn, is a notable historic building on the street. The station end of West Street connects to a residential area of Victorian and Edwardian houses that extends towards Fareham Common.
