Hampshire's Market Town

Redlands Lane

Street guide, Fareham

Redlands Lane runs south-west from the town towards the Newgate Lane area and Stubbington. The name reflects the red clay soil that was the basis of Fareham's historic brick-making industry. Fareham Reds, a distinctive local brick, were made from clay dug in this area and used in buildings across the region and beyond. The road has a mix of residential and semi-rural character, with houses giving way to more open land as you head south-west. Parts of the Newgate Lane development area are accessed from Redlands Lane. The road provides an alternative route towards Lee-on-the-Solent and Stubbington, avoiding the main Newgate Lane East corridor.
