Gudge Heath Lane

Street guide, Fareham

Gudge Heath Lane runs north-east from the Fareham Common area towards the A27 and North Fareham. It is a residential road with housing from various periods, becoming more rural in character towards its northern end. The lane provides access to Henry Cort Community College, one of Fareham's secondary schools. The school takes its name from Henry Cort, the eighteenth-century ironmaster who developed the puddling process for producing wrought iron at a mill in Funtley, just north of Fareham. The road is moderately busy during school hours, with congestion at drop-off and pick-up times. Beyond the school, the road connects to the northern suburbs and the A27. The northern section has a more open character, with glimpses of farmland between the houses.
