Rail services to London, Portsmouth, and Southampton
Fareham railway station is well connected, sitting on the main line between Portsmouth and Southampton with direct services to London Waterloo. Direct trains to London Waterloo take approximately one hour and forty minutes, running via Eastleigh and Basingstoke. Services operate roughly hourly throughout the day, with additional services during the morning and evening peaks. The London service is well used by commuters, and the trains can be busy during peak hours. The frequency of the Portsmouth service makes it viable for regular commuting and for evening trips to the city's restaurants, cinemas, and cultural venues.
Southampton Central is reachable in approximately twenty to twenty-five minutes, with regular services throughout the day. From Southampton, connections are available to Bournemouth, the West Country, the Midlands, and the North via Cross Country services.
The Gosport branch line, which once ran south from Fareham, closed to passengers in 1953. There have been periodic proposals to reopen it or convert it to a busway, but none has progressed to implementation. The trackbed is partially used as a cycleway and walking path.

Portchester station, on the eastern side of the borough, provides an alternative for residents of that area. It is on the same line and has similar services, though not all trains stop there. It is unstaffed.
Season ticket prices from Fareham to London are significant, in line with other south Hampshire stations.
