Fort Nelson on Portsdown Hill is a restored Victorian fort housing part of the Royal Armouries collection of artillery. The fort is one of the best-preserved Palmerston Forts and offers panoramic views south over Portsmouth Harbour, the Solent, and the Isle of Wight. The collection includes historic guns and cannons from around the world, and regular firing demonstrations are a popular attraction. Admission is free. The fort is managed by the Royal Armouries and is open to the public throughout the year. It is one of the most significant visitor attractions accessible from Fareham.
