Hill Head is a coastal settlement south of Fareham, sitting on the shoreline where the River Meon flows into the Solent at Titchfield Haven. It is a quiet residential area with a character shaped by its position between the nature reserve and the sea. The seafront at Hill Head provides views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight, and the beach is a mix of shingle and sand. Hill Head Harbour is a small working harbour used by local fishermen and recreational boat owners. The Haven, a cafe and visitor centre at the entrance to Titchfield Haven, serves walkers and birdwatchers who come for the nature reserve. The Osborne View pub, set above the shoreline, is a popular venue for food and drink with its elevated views across the water. The housing stock in Hill Head is mixed, with older bungalows and houses from the 1930s onwards alongside some newer development. Many properties enjoy sea views or proximity to the nature reserve. The area has a retired and settled demographic, with a high proportion of owner-occupiers. Hill Head has limited commercial provision beyond the harbour area and a small parade of shops. Residents travel to Fareham or Stubbington for supermarket shopping and most services. The Solent Way long-distance footpath passes through Hill Head, connecting it to Lee-on-the-Solent to the east and Meon Shore to the west. The beach huts along the seafront are a distinctive feature, with waiting lists for new allocations. Hill Head is not the sort of place that draws attention to itself. It is a quiet corner of the borough with good walking, reliable birdwatching, and a pace of life that suits those who have chosen it deliberately.
