Cams Hill
Suburban residential area south-east of the town centre with good road links, proximity to Fareham Creek, and a mix of late-twentieth-century housing and the historic Cams Hall estate.
Cams Hill lies to the south-east of the town centre, between the A27 and the head of Fareham Creek. The area takes its name from the Cams estate, whose historic parkland stretches down to the waterfront at Fareham Lake. Cams Hill is predominantly residential, with a range of housing from 1960s and 1970s estates to more recent developments. The area includes Cams Hill School, a secondary school serving the eastern side of Fareham. The proximity to the M27 junction and the A27 makes the area convenient for commuters heading east towards Portsmouth or west towards Southampton, and this accessibility is reflected in steady property demand. Palmerston Drive and the streets off it provide typical late-twentieth-century suburban housing. The Cams estate itself, including the Grade II listed Cams Hall, has been partly developed with housing while retaining areas of parkland and the golf course. Cams Hall Estate Golf Club occupies much of the former parkland and provides a landscaped green buffer between the residential streets and the waterfront. Fareham Creek runs along the southern boundary, and there are footpaths along the creek providing pleasant walks with views across to Portchester and Portsmouth Harbour. The area has a suburban commuter character. There is limited commercial provision; a small parade of shops on Cams Hill serves basic needs, but residents generally drive or bus into the town centre or to the retail parks at Fareham Reach for significant shopping. The combination of good transport links, green space, and proximity to the water makes it an attractive area for families. Primary schools and doctor's surgeries are within reasonable reach. The area lacks the historic fabric of the town centre or the rural charm of the outlying villages, but it functions well as a residential neighbourhood.
